AFROBEAT ARTIST FEMI ABOSEDE MAKES ‘NO COMPROMISE’

Toronto, ON - June 28th, 2006 -- Small World Music, Toronto's world music concert producer, proudly presents its summer festival. Now in its third year, the annual Global Café program brings to the stage a snapshot of the exciting developments in today's international music scene. From no fewer than eight countries come artists representing traditions ranging from Cuban roots to West African hip-hop; from Persian fusion to frenetic Gypsy beats.

FEMI ABOSEDE (Nigeria / Canada)
Born during times of social and political change in the 1960's in Lagos, Nigeria, Abosede was brought up in a traditional Yoruba family and encouraged to make his mark on the world. This show launches his new CD, which also highlights the talents of his 15-piece band.
As a youth, Abosede was introduced to the great Afrobeat originator, free thinker, outlaw and social activist Fela Kuti, and spent much of his time as a teenager at his infamous Shrine and Kalakuta compound. There, Abosede experienced Fela's vibrant attacks on governmental hypocrisy, his support of the pan-African struggle for liberation, and most of all, his propulsive, life-enhancing music.
